Sutton embarked on his racing journey in 2022, participating in the Southeast Legends Tour, the INEX Nashville Spring Series, the Thursday Thunder Legends Racing Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and the INEX Summer Shootout Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Collectively, Sutton scored 6 Top 5 finishes and 17 Top 10 finishes across all series.
In 2023, he embarked on his first full-time season in late models, participating in more than thirty races at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Throughout this period, he achieved four poles, two wins, and sixteen top-five finishes, concluding the season in seventh place in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing standings.
In January 2024, Sutton revealed had plans to compete in the entire ASA STARS Super Late Model Series schedule. Dawson participated in several major and renowned late model races, such as the All-American 400 at Nashville Fairgrounds, the "RATTLER" at South Alabama Speedway, the Snowball Derby at Five Flags, and the Redbud 400 at Anderson Speedway.
Dawson also made his debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at North Wilkesboro Speedway on May 18th, 2024, driving the No. 26 Chevrolet for Rackley W.A.R. After starting 36th and last due to a rain-out in qualifying, Sutton finished two laps down in 28th place.
He competed in the Rackley Roofing 200 at Nashville Superspeedway, his hometown track, where he secured an 18th place finish. On September 23, 2024, it was revealed that Sutton would drive the No. 25 Silverado for Rackley W.A.R. in the final five races of the 2024 Truck season.

On October 17, 2024, it was announced that Sutton will run full-time in the NASCAR Truck Series for Rackley W.A.R.
